The Tea Nest is 19 kilometres from Ooty in the Nilgiris district in Tamil Nadu, well known for tea stations and festivals. The hotel itself is tranquil and remote, with views on all sides of the forests and tea gardens. It is the ideal base for trekking expeditions into the Nilgiri mountains.

Nearby attractions:

Nilgiri Mountain Railway. Built in 1908 the railway still uses a fleet of steam locomotives. It forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. The route covers 16 miles of curves, tunnels, bridges and passes through the most stunning scenery. Coonoor station was used as a location in the David Lean film, A Passage to India.

Dolphin’s Nose, Coonoor. An amazing viewing platform from which you can see the forest valleys, ravines and rivers.

Sim’s Park, Coonoor. A 12-hectare park and botanical gardens with many rare species of trees and plants. Great picnic spot and family day out.

Tiger Hill Cemetery, Coonoor. A 19th century graveyard in a tea plantation.

The Droog, Coonoor. Commanding views in all directions from this outpost fort nearly 2,000 metres above the plains, that can be reached via a four kilometres climb and trek.

Law’s Falls. Popular trekking destination.

Ooty. A very popular visitor destination, known as the Queen of Hill Stations, set in the green Nilgiri Hills with many lakes, gardens and much colonial architecture.
