Goa on India’s south-west coast is a former Portuguese colony with a unique mix of culture and architecture, and some of the world’s most beautiful beaches. The Highland Heritage is in the village of Salvador do Mundo in North Goa, 10 kilometres from the capital city of Panjim. It is close to Goa’s renowned beach ‘belts’ of Colva, Benaulim, Cavelossim, Calangute, Baga and Candolim. Inland you will find wildlife sanctuaries and incredible scenery, plantations, waterfalls and rivers.

Beaches. The Highland Heritage is close to Goa’s famous ‘beach belts’ – some of the best are Candolim, Calangute, Baga, Colva, Banaulim and Cavelossim – where you will find palm trees, white sands and sparkling water of the Arabian Sea.

Dr Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary. The sanctuary, mangrove forest and island are accessed by a ferry service that runs between Ribander and Chorao.

Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary. A 200 square kilometre protected area of high biodiversity with Bengal tigers, black panther, sloth bear, Indian gaur, leopard and mongoose, the Vazra Sakla waterfalls, the Virdi Falls and sacred groves.

Panaji (formerly Panjim). The capital city of the state of Goa on the banks of the Mandovi River estuary, with terraced hills, red-tiled roofs, cobbled streets, churches and riverside walks.

Old Goa. The Original Portuguese capital was one of the richest places in the world in the 16th century, and the old city is well preserved as a World Heritage Site, with churches. It is linked to modern Panaji by a centuries-old causeway that runs through backwaters, passing through early colonial architecture at Ribandar.

Goa Science Centre. In Panaji has a huge outdoor park with lawns and exotic flowers and interactive exhibitions.

Mapusa. A small town that comes alive on market day each Friday when local people sellagricultural produce, spices, vegetables, fruit as well as clothes and plants.

Mollem National Park. Jungle adventure and jeep safaris available in a park where you can dive into the Dudhsagar Falls.
