Thousand Lights Mosque. 1,000 lamps light up the hall of this beautiful, domed mosque with twin minarets.

Madras Crocodile Bank. 2,500 creates including alligators, snakes, sea turtles and water birds…. As well as crocodiles of course.

Besant Nagar Beach (previously Elliot’s Beach). Less crowded than Marina Beach, and with the famous Ashta Lakshmi Temple and the Velenganni Church and Schmidt Memorial.

Marina Beach. India’s largest beach extending from Fort St. George to Besant Nagar. Spectacular sunrises, lined by palm trees. Look out for the old lighthouse.

Arignar Anna Zoological Park. 35 kilometres from Chennai city centre, home to 1,500 species with an aviary, lion, deer and elephant safaris.

Muttukadu. Backwater area in the Bay of Bengal that is ideal for watersports, bird-watching and ocean-side dining spots.
