Location
Beaminster
BridgeHouse Hotel is a few yards from Beaminster Square on the Bridport to Crewkerne Road. It is just six miles inland from West Bay and a 10-minute drive from the Jurassic Coast.
There are many historic houses and places to visit within easy reach of the Hotel. The Jacobean manor house, Mapperton House, for example, is within a mile. Athelhampton House, one of England's finest Medieval homes, is close by. To the north-west of Beaminster is Forde Abbey - the most complete Cistercian monastic building to survive as a home in Britain. And at Sherborne, there are two castles, a magnificent abbey and a beautiful Medieval town.
The coast and beaches
BridgeHouse is a perfect base from which to explore Dorset and East Devon's spectacular coastline - from Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove to Sidmouth. Among the most popular are Lyme Regis with its famous cobb immortalised in the French Lieutenant's Woman; Golden Cap – the highest clifftop on the English coast; Beer with its great art galleries, The Hive Café, Burton Bradstock and Weymouth Beach; and Portland for breathtaking views across Chesil Beach.
Children's attractions
At West Bay there's a fabulous 'rope' park open to all ages. Haynes Motor Museum with its go-karts, special events and amazing museum is always a hit with children. Also, close by, is the Royal Navy Air Museum at Yeovilton, the Tank Museum at Bovington, Pecorama model railway at Beer, and The Sea Life Centre at Weymouth.
